Second Chances

I've been giving a lot of thought lately to second chances. Everybody deserves one and at one time or another, we all need one. Sometimes third and fourth chances too. It's come to my attention though that some people seem to think that they are above giving credit to those deserving people who have turned their life around.

The amazing person That I have in mind today is my brother-in-law. We'll call him S.

S used to be a first class party boy. Drinking and fighting were the norm for him. He even did three years in prison because of all the "fun" times he had.

He has four kids. B, D, J, and G. And he has three Baby Mamas. (Damn!) S didn't even know about B until she was 3 or 4 years old. That's 1 baby mama. D is from another baby mama, and J and G share a mama. He hasn't had the chance to be around B and D as much as he would like because of the life he used to lead.

But to see S now is like looking at a different person. The third baby mama (of J and G) isn't a very good person. She's all about drinking and drugs. Which is why S just won custody of J and G. He hasn't drank in four years, and hasn't been in any trouble with the law in 7 or 8 years. With all of those things together, I'm more than impressed and proud of him.

Yet certain people, like his first two baby mamas and a few family members, still want to look down their noses at him. He pays his child support for the older kids, even though he's out of work due to medical problems. He just had a stroke and seizures a couple weeks ago which makes working hard for him right now. Yet he still does every thing he can for his kids. But do these "perfect" people acknowledge these changes or the good things he does? Nope.

So to these people I say, one day you will need a second chance too. Remember that.

  1. Most of the time, people that talk about others, and never give others the benefit of the doubt, it's because they are weak people that have had it easy. Only the struggles that we go through make us strong. YOu are right, one day they will find out what it means to be the bug instead of the windsheild.
