Do you think your parents brought you up right Guest post

Here's my first guest post from one of my most favorite lady bloggers, Cinnamon. She's an awesome writer and a wonderful person. She made me feel imensley beter after the crazy day I had yesterday! Everybody make sure you go visit her.

When Echo asked me to guest post for her, I had a couple of topics in mind to write about.  But then, when I saw that she was having such a bad week....the mommy in ME came out.  She's younger (much) than I am, and has grown up in a somewhat different time. And I only have one child. She has about a dozen, or so it would seem with all that she's been through this week. She wanted me to write something that would let her readers know something about me, and that's all good. But I kept thinking about her and then thought about my son, and then about how I was raised.  And then I thought about the things that I learned growing up and wondered if I had taught my son any of those things. I am hoping that in between the X-box, and all the other "things" that he has; that weren't even invented back in "the day", that he may have picked up a few nuggets of knowledge. These are the most important things that I learned from my Mom and Dad. And they have influenced EVERY thing I have ever done in my life. In no particular order:
  • Be kind.  My Mom would have worn my ass out if I had ever made fun of someone with any kind of physical defect or handicap. For every thing that God doesn't give a person on the outside, he give them a double dose of something else on the inside. Never make fun of anyone less fortunate.Love the innocents and the animals of this world. Because they trust you to take care of them.
  • Work hard. I've had a million jobs in my life.  And they certainly have not all been glamorous.  In fact, I'd be hard pressed to think of one that WAS glamorous. But I was taught that it doesn't matter the title that you have.  What matters is the work ethic that you bring to the job.  Be on time. Give your employer their money's worth. Hold your head high and be proud of what you do.  No matter what it is.
  • Be Honest.  In ALL things. A liar will steal, and a thief will lie.  Do not do either, and you will never have to keep up with falsehoods. Sometimes it hurts to tell the truth, but it really is the best policy.  In all things.
  • Love with your whole heart.  Don't hold back.  The one thing that you hold back will be the one thing that you should have given.  And then it's too late.
  • Don't take any SHIT. I didn't learn this one very well, until I got much older. And sometimes I still forget this one. But if you are right, don't back down. Remember to be kind, but don't let your kindness be taken as weakness.  In everyone life, there will come at least one time when the whole world (or at least your corner of it) will look to you for the right decision.  Be kind. Be strong. Be honest. Be yourself.
peace,

Cinnamon
